Cylburn E. Soden, Sr., MD
Dr. Cylburn E. Soden, Sr. is a board-certified dermatologist with over 35 years of experience as a dermatologist and the founder of Soderma Dermatology. He graduated from Morgan State University in Baltimore, Maryland in 1968 and University of Maryland School of Medicine in 1974. He completed residences in both pediatrics and dermatology at Walter Reed Medical Center. Dr. Soden, Sr. served for over twenty years in the US Army working as pediatrician, dermatologist and hospital commander, and retired at the rank of colonel. Dr. Soden is fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology and member of the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery..
Dr. Soden Sr. opened his dermatology practice in 1984 in Baltimore, Maryland. After a few years he moved the practice to Silver Spring, Maryland and later to Laurel, Maryland. Dr. Soden, Sr. and his wife, Virginia, were joined by their son, Dr. Cylburn E. Soden, Jr., in 2008 and daughter-in-law, Kinosha Soden, in 2014. He enjoys all areas of dermatology and has a particular expertise in treating pigmentary problems, pediatric skin disorders, disorders of the hair and scalp and cosmetic procedures.
Cylburn E. Soden, Jr., MD, MA
Dr. Soden, Jr. is a board-certified Dermatologist and fellowship-trained in Mohs Micrographic Surgery and Procedural Dermatology. He is an expert in the management of skin cancer as well as both cosmetic and general Dermatology. He has specialized training in the use of lasers in all skin types as well as skin fillers, and Botox like products. Dr. Soden, Jr. also has a particular interest in the management and surgical removal of keloids, especially from the ears, as well as the treatment of vitiligo with the new and highly specialized Excimer laser. Dr. Soden, Jr. is a Maryland native. He received his undergraduate degree in Biochemistry from the University of Maryland Baltimore County, where he graduated with honors and was elected to the Phi Beta Kappa National Honor Society. He obtained his medical degree from the prestigious Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri and returned to the University of Maryland Medical Center to complete his internal medicine internship. Subsequently, Dr. Soden, Jr. completed his Dermatology residency at the University of California Irvine. During his training, he had the privilege of learning under the celebrated ethnic skin care specialist Dr. Paul Kelly and renowned cosmetic, laser and Mohs surgeon Dr. Christopher Zachary. Following his residency, Dr. Soden, Jr. served as a practicing Dermatologist in the United States Army at Ft. Bragg, North Carolina. During his final years in the US Armed Forced he proudly served as a general medical officer in Iraq as part of Operation Iraqi Freedom. He attained the rank of Major before exiting the military in the summer of 2010.
Dr. Soden, Jr. completed an intensive American College of Mohs Surgery fellowship in Macon, Georgia in 2011. During his training he performed nearly 2000 complex Mohs surgical and reconstruction cases. With his broad experience, Dr. Soden, Jr. is a valuable resource not only to general practitioners but also to other Dermatologists and Surgeons who currently treat skin cancer for his ability to assist in the management of large or high-risk tumors, recurrent skin cancers and complications.
Dr. Soden, Jr. is also an expert in nonsurgical facial rejuvenation with skin fillers and neurotoxins. prides himself in staying at the cutting edge of technology in dermatology strives to provide the highest level of care to all of his patients.
Kinosha M. Soden, LME, BS
Kinosha is a Licensed Medical Esthetician with over 20 years in the health and wellness field and is the former Mrs. DC America 2016. She is also the wife of Dr. Cylburn Soden, Jr.
Kinosha completed her Bachelor of Science degrees in both Biology and Business in 2000 at the University of Missouri-St. Louis, and continued on to begin her graduate studies in Biomedical Analytics at Washington University-St. Louis, MO. After moving to Maryland, she graduated from Dermal Science International in Virginia and received licenses in Maryland, Virginia and the District of Columbia.
Before making her home here in Maryland, Kinosha was heavily vested in the education and health of her community in St. Louis, MO, holding positions as a faculty member in Health Studies at St. Louis Community College-Forest Park, Director of Partnerships for ARCHS (Area Research for Community and Human Services), St. Louis Public Schools Advisory Board Member and she spent numerous years as a member of the NFL St. Louis RAMS Cheerleaders (1998-2007).
An advocate of STEM education for youth and especially school-aged girls, Kinosha has served as a GEMS Organization, (Girls Excelling in Math and Science) advisor, educator and facilitator for over 15 years. On January 3, 2017, Kinosha received special recognition from United States Congresswoman, Eleanor Holmes Norton, for her dedication and work in STEM education within the District of Columbia. On that day, the American flag was flown over the United States Capital Building in Kinosha’s honor.
As a Medical Esthetician she has transferred her skills and passions for educating and bettering the lives of others though advanced skin care techniques and education. Virginia Soden, RN, MS
Virginia Soden is a native of Wilmington, NC. She obtained her Bachelor of Science degree from North Carolina A&T State University and a Master of Science in Nursing from the University of Maryland. She served for over twenty years in the United States Army Nurse Corps before retiring with the rank of LTC. During the course of her military career she held various leadership positions in infectious disease control and research, orthopedics, general medicine as well community health nursing and nursing recruitment. Upon retiring from the military, Virginia was a Clinical Nurse Supervisor in a large home health corporation and was a nursing instructor at Bowie State University. Since 1992 she has served as Practice Manager and Clinical Research Coordinator with her husband, Dr. Cylburn E. Soden Sr. Her particular area of dermatologic interest is scarring hair loss in women. She holds membership in the American Dermatology Nursing Association and participates in several community organizations. Virginia has been dedicated to providing exceptional patient care throughout her career and is committed to helping all patients at Soderma General, Surgical & Cosmetic dermatology have a wonderful experience.
